Late Nights is Dawn's new single. Self recorded, produced and performed, telling a story in methaphor of the calling of the conscience, when late at night the mind goes wandering to forgotten pieces of who you were, to the things never done, the opportunities past and the things we regret.
The song journeys on through the verses exploring ones potential, left unexplored in the stories of our lives, the distractions we use to cover up the fact that we are often afraid of our own success and the bets we place against, or for ourselves, in the races we run. It journeys full circle back to the same lyrics that are in the first verse, yet somehow now they have become then the opportunity to let go, explore the pieces of self worth saving and find your heart anew.
With guitar and djembe drum to lay down a hypnotic rhythm, which sets the scene for the journey the lyrics take you on. "The inspiration for the song came from the hypnotic almost tibetan melody, which in my mind, conjured up the images of dark streets and solo journeys through the world. I also happen to have been writing it late at night, during what I call artist hours, a time when I feel we delve into our secret, often pushed away pieces of ourselves.
The song is full of vivid methaphor and imagery which I hope creates for others as it does for myself, some powerful images. Images of autumn leaves which cover the streets, or dusty attics where once loved objects get put when we no longer feel attached to them (treasures to be rediscovered at another point in time), books left unread on shelves (the wisdom of their pages trapped between the binding), and of course the Trojan horse, so beautifully made yet really a distraction to achieve another end, just as we distract ourselves with shiny things and social media, while forfeiting our lives true calling or purpose, and the time to pursue it. The first verse and final verse are the same however they have very different sentiments.
