Reimagined and reclaimed
After a short hiatus from producing critically-acclaimed projects, including ‘Ghostin’ and ‘Excuse Me’ from his debut project ‘The Damian Mixtape’, CHRISTOF JENNINGS makes a sensuous return with single, ‘Taking Over’, slated for release for 14th February on Bandcamp.
Hope, heartache, and healing
Lorraine Salvador’s ‘Trying’ captures her journey toward motherhood in chronological order, a story told through soul, jazz, and R&B. What began as a personal project, writing a song during each two-week wait, has evolved into a deeply intimate collection. ‘Trying’ is about hope, heartache, and healing.
Kindness tells a tale of betrayal, unexpected but irrefutable. It is about being acted against by a trusted confidant, who is willing to sacrifice a friendship to get ahead. Arlen, from his place of ruin, writes about the fantasy of receiving poetic justice.
‘Fantasize’ is a grandiose rant in which Arlen airs his discontentment with his station in life as well as the socio-political climate at the time of his writing, while defiantly daring to dream big. He began writing the song during his gruelling tenure in medical school when he truly began questioning his purpose in life. Fantasize allowed for a bit of frivolous escapism from what, at the time, felt like the harshness of his reality. Lesroy ‘A.P.’ Byers of the Oakville Collective captures perfectly in the production, the sentiment of Arlen’s hopeful helplessness.
